Selected Projects
Klemm Analysis Group provides analytic, management, and technical assistance to commercial and government organizations. We solve complex policy and management problems by applying both traditional and state-of-the-art analytic and statistical techniques, and by presenting results that are clear and tailored to the individual client's needs.
Here are some of our past projects:
Epidemiological, statistical, and data management support for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Klemm has completed over 100 tasks ranging from survey design to analysis of health surveillance and panel data. We applied various methodologies to areas of public health, including generalized estimating equations (GEE), tree-based modeling, neural networks, general additive models (GAM), meta-analysis, and small area analysis. Particularly noteworthy work involved characterizing the accuracy of HIV assays in practice and longitudinal studies of both risk-reducing behaviors and natural histories of gynecologic conditions among women with or at high risk for HIV.
Analysis of methodological issues for modeling the health effects of particulate matter
Klemm Analysis Group reanalyzed data from the Harvard Six-Cities Study of the association between mortality and particulate matter and was a member of the multi-firm team executing the Aerosol Research Inhalation Epidemiological Study (ARIES) in cooperation with Emory University that looked at the association of a variety of air quality variables and daily mortality and morbidity in Atlanta.
Litigation and Expert Testimony
Since its founding in 1987, Klemm Analysis Group has assisted attorneys in over 75 cases. (Update number?) We have vast experience performing analysis for dispute resolution, including the ability to collect data in diverse formats, perform analysis, and synthesize the information into a cohesive story.
Coordination of a major study of diabetes care in managed care organizations
Klemm Analysis Group was the Coordinating Center for Translating Research into Action for Diabetes (TRIAD). We handled the day-to-day activities of TRIAD including maintaining a secure web site for communications and document sharing. We also provided expert guidance on many aspects of the project, particularly in the areas of data collection and management, quality control and assurance, study design, and analytic approaches.
Audits of Enrollment databases for various health care providers in the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program
Klemm has assisted the Department of Justice and various health care providers by performing audits of enrollment databases to assist with disputes revolving around appropriate payments for providing healthcare coverage for Federal Employee Health Benefits Program enrollees. All providers have asserted that the Federal Government has underpaid for the coverage provided. Issues of database accuracy and appropriate documentation of enrollment transactions have been critical to the resolution of the disputes.
Assessment of health conditions among members of the Army Chemical Corps during the period of the Vietnam War
This Klemm Analysis Group study compared the prevalence of various outcomes, especially cancer, among Army Chemical Corps veterans who served in Vietnam to those who were in the Army at the same time but did not serve in Vietnam. The study also compares the prevalence of specified birth outcomes and birth defects between children of Vietnam and non-Vietnam Army Chemical Corps veterans and assessed the likelihood of Agent Orange exposure among the Vietnam and non-Vietnam Army Chemical Corps cohorts through the measurement of serum TCDD levels.
Assessment of current practices and future opportunities of complementary and alternative medicine therapies within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA)
This benchmark study evaluated whether or not VHA should offer alternative medicine treatments and also suggested how VHA could ensure that such therapies are appropriate, of high quality, and equitably available.
Analysis of Physician and Dentist Compensation for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
Klemm Analysis Group conducted the 2001 Physician and Dentist Pay Comparability and Employment Study for VA. A study is performed every four years in anticipation of the VA's Quadrennial Report to Congress on special pay for physicians and dentists. Findings of the Klemm Analysis Group 1989 study provided evidence that eventually changed the law regarding special pay for physicians and dentists.
Analysis of Faculty and Academic Management Staff Compensation
Klemm Analysis Group conducted a study of faculty and academic management staff compensation for Loyola University in New Orleans and Marymount University in Los Angeles.
