Selected Projects

Klemm Analysis Group provides analytic, management, and technical assistance to commercial and government organizations. We solve complex policy and management problems by applying both traditional and state-of-the-art analytic and statistical techniques, and by presenting results that are clear and tailored to the individual client's needs.

Here are some of our past and current projects:

Washington , DC Public Schools (DCPS) Blackman Jones Evaluation Team

Dr. Klemm of Klemm Analysis Group is one of three individuals named by Judge Friedman to evaluate reasons for untimely receipt of services for special education students that are class members in the Blackman and Jones combined cases.  Her particular role as the statistician on the team was to evaluate the computer systems and student data files and perform analysis of data provided by DCPS.  The desired goal of this project is the implementation of a data management system and improved organizational structure that provides the services required by special education students with greater speed, less litigation and less cost.

Evaluation of Dalkon Shield Claims for the Dalkon Shield Claimants Trust

Dr. Klemm was a Statistical and Analytic Expert to the Dalkon Shield Claimants Trust to evaluate the value of injuries related to the Dalkon Shield. She was responsible for directing Klemm staff analysts and programmers in the design and development of a claimant database, evaluation of claims, and data analysis, including financial forecasting and quality control between claims. She assisted the Trustees with varied tasks related to establishing a new organization: settlement strategy; database design and hardware requirements; staff training; and overall policy.

Analysis of methodological issues for modeling the health effects of particulate matter: Electric Power Research Institute

Klemm Analysis Group, focusing on the impact of diverse methodologies to estimated associations, reanalyzed data from the Harvard Six-Cities Study relating to the association between mortality and air quality indicators. Klemm Analysis Group was also a member of the multi-firm team executing the Aerosol Research Inhalation Epidemiological Study (ARIES) in cooperation with Emory University that looked at the association of a variety of air quality variables and daily mortality and morbidity in Atlanta and continues to investigate the relationship of air quality indicators in cities as additional monitoring sites have been established.

Assessment of health conditions among members of the Army Chemical Corps and Women Veterans during the period of the Vietnam War

The first of these Klemm Analysis Group studies compared the prevalence of various long-term health outcomes, especially cancer, among Army Chemical Corps veterans who served in Vietnam to those who were in the Army at the same time but did not serve in Vietnam. This study also compares the prevalence of specified birth outcomes and birth defects between children of Vietnam and non-Vietnam Army Chemical Corps veterans and assessed the likelihood of Agent Orange exposure among the Vietnam and non-Vietnam Army Chemical Corps cohorts through the measurement of serum TCDD levels. The second of these studies was a large retrospective cohort study mandated by Congress to determine the association of military service in Vietnam with adverse reproductive outcomes and malignancies, focusing on health outcomes among women Vietnam-era veterans.

Epidemiological, statistical, and data management support for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Klemm Analysis Group has completed over 100 tasks ranging from survey design to analysis of health surveillance and panel data. We applied various methodologies to areas of public health, including generalized estimating equations (GEE), tree-based modeling, neural networks, general additive models (GAM), meta-analysis, and small area analysis. Particularly noteworthy work involved characterizing the accuracy of HIV assays in practice and longitudinal studies of both risk-reducing behaviors and natural histories of gynecologic conditions among women with or at high risk for HIV.

Analysis of Physician and Dentist Compensation for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)

Klemm Analysis Group conducted the 2001 Physician and Dentist Pay Comparability and Employment Study for VA. A study is performed every four years in anticipation of the VA's Quadrennial Report to Congress on special pay for physicians and dentists. Findings of the Klemm Analysis Group 1989 study provided evidence that eventually changed the law regarding special pay for physicians and dentists.

Analysis of Faculty and Academic Management Staff Compensation
